What To Expect In Your Lessons

Meet Jason: Your Dedicated Guitar Instructor

The Journey Begins: A Passion for Teaching Guitar

My adventure into teaching guitar began back in the fall of 1996, during my junior year of high school. It all started when a freshman, who had seen me perform, approached me with a request to learn advanced guitar techniques. I remember feeling a mix of excitement and nerves – teaching someone is a big responsibility, and I wanted to get it right. That experience was the first step in a journey that has brought me immense joy and fulfillment.

Throughout high school and college, my passion for teaching only grew. I found myself not only teaching guitar but also tutoring music theory. This experience was invaluable, teaching me the importance of making complex subjects accessible and engaging for all students, regardless of their background in music.

A Solid Foundation in Music Education

My formal education in music laid the groundwork for my teaching and performing career. I earned an Associate’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance from The County College of Morris in New Jersey, followed by a major in Jazz Guitar Performance at New York University. Completing my Bachelor of Music at NYU was a milestone that marked the beginning of my professional journey in teaching, performing, and recording.

A Teacher for All Levels and Styles

One of my core beliefs as a teacher is that learning should be personalized and enjoyable. I take pride in being able to teach students at all levels – from beginners just learning to hold a guitar to professional musicians seeking to master complex techniques. My teaching repertoire is diverse, covering styles like Fingerstyle, Classical, Electric, Jazz, Blues, Modern Country, Rock, Metal, and Shred. I also focus on essential skills such as note reading, music theory, songwriting, improvisation, ear training, and ensemble direction.

Beyond Self-Teaching: The Value of Personalized Instruction

Are you feeling stuck with self-taught guitar methods, generic guitar apps, or endless YouTube tutorials? It’s time to experience the difference a local, in-person guitar teacher can make. Unlike one-size-fits-all online videos, my lessons are tailored to your unique needs and goals. With me, your guitar lessons are all about you – your progress, your learning style, and your musical aspirations.
